What is TMS?
TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic stimulation. TMS therapy is FDA-approved for depression that has not responded to medication treatment. In depression, there's reduced activity in brain regions responsible for mood regulation. TMS stimulates these brain areas through delivery of magnetic pulses via TMS coil placed directly on the scalp.
Why should I choose TMS?
TMS therapy is safe, effective, non-invasive, and unlike ECT, does not require sedation with anesthesia. It does not have the side effects of medications.
TMS therapy is performed in the outpatient setting, a doctor's office or clinic. It is covered by most insurance companies including Medicare and some states' Medicaid.
